My personal experience with synths outside of FL studios stock synths has been Massive (not massive x) and Nexus (which is more of a synth/sampler hybrid) I am not really a knob twister though and am more of a preset guy but I would imagine the only synths you could use outside of FLs stock plug-ins for some extra flavor would be Serum or possibly omnisphere if you like nice presets right out of the box. Read the manual, and study up and you will do big things with those synths. FM synthesis is something that could potentially take years to fully master. I have watched videos of some impressive sound design on those synths that goes right over my head with how complex it gets. Numerous people on YouTube like Seamless for example argue that Sytrus and Harmor are some of the most capable synths on the market.
